DUBLIN,Ireland June 23-Israel has launched an airstrike on Iran’s Evin Prison in Tehran, a high-security facility known for holding political prisoners, according to Iran’s judiciary. The judiciary’s Mizan news agency confirmed the attack and stated that the situation is now “under control.”
CCTV footage captured a blast at one of the prison gates, while state-run television aired images of emergency workers pulling a casualty from the rubble and searching for survivors amid the wreckage.
Israel’s Defence Minister said the strikes targeted “regime sites and government repression institutions” in Tehran, naming Evin among the key targets.

The Israeli military also reported hitting access roads to the Fordo nuclear facility, located south of Tehran. This strike followed U.S. air raids on the same facility just a day earlier, where bunker-buster bombs were used.
Meanwhile, Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles into Israel, with one landing in an industrial zone in the coastal city of Ashdod near a major power station. The strike led to power outages in parts of the city.
These escalations are part of a broader Israeli offensive launched ten days ago, aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, which Israel describes as existential threats.
Iran’s health ministry estimates that Israeli strikes have killed around 500 people, though a human rights organization claims the number could be as high as 950. On the other side, Israeli officials report that Iranian missile attacks have claimed 24 lives.
