The Kenyan government has declared its intention to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against Mpox by December. This decision comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared Mpox a public health emergency.

Earlier this week, Dr. Patrick Amoth, Kenya’s Director-General for Health, announced that Kenya is set to receive two million vaccine doses from a Denmark-based Nordic manufacturing company by December.

Dr. Amoth also disclosed that the upcoming vaccination campaign will prioritize society’s most vulnerable individuals, similar to the Covid-19 vaccination rollout.

In addition to the vaccination campaign, the Director-General disclosed further measures being implemented by the government to control the virus’s spread. These measures include increased surveillance at all entry points, additional training for healthcare workers, and the allocation of four government laboratories to test for Mpox cases.

The announcement from the Kenyan government has elicited a variety of responses, with numerous individuals turning to social media to share their perspectives on the matter. An X user who goes by the name @theboyleviticus clearly expressed his reservations for the Mpox jab.

Kenya has since confirmed a second case of mpox in the western border town of Malaba.
