What seemed to be a veiled threat to take over the National Assembly, which is one of the four arms of the government, Kenya’s famous Generation Zoom, a.k.a Gen Z made good their threat and stormed into the floor of parliament on Tuesday. This move to oppose the government-back Finance Bill, 2024, caught both the members of parliament and security agencies off guard, something that made the MPs to scamper for safety via an underground tunnel.

The Gen Zs, backed up by the Gen Ys, had earlier vowed to disrupt parliamentary proceedings that were aimed at discussing and voting of the Finance Bill, 2024, that would allow government to plan for it’s revenue collection and expenditure for the next one year. Activist from different parts also joined the protests that erupted in different major towns of Kenya. Many thanked the power of social media as a tool to mobilise the protesters.
